Hearing assistance

The Supreme Court of the Northern Territory is committed to ensuring that all court users can access services fairly and easily including people with hearing impairments.

The Court makes available infra-red hearing devices that are connected into the microphones and recording equipment of the courtroom. There are different options (depending on availability) for use with the infrared system from using your own headphones to wearing a neck loop to enable a hearing aid to receive the audio. Please see staff for the available options. For the Court it ensures security and confidentiality so the information presented in the courtroom stays within the courtroom walls.

If you have a hearing impairment and would benefit from the use of this system, please make yourself known to court staff at the Sheriff’s Office. You should arrive 30 minutes before your matter will be heard to collect a receiver and to ensure that the equipment is set up.

At the end of the day, you must return the receiver even if your matter is continuing on the next day or at some other time. You can collect the receiver again the next time it is needed.

If you experience any problems with the receiver please notify a court officer who will be able to assist you.
