Witnesses

Witnesses are an important part of the court process and those giving evidence have rights and responsibilities.

As a witness you are not expected to pay for travel and accommodation or lose wages because you are going to court.

The Witness Assistance Service is there to provide support to victims of crime and witnesses who need to appear in court to give evidence.

If you are called as a witness you must attend or risk being fined or arrested.

More information about going to court as a witness, including information on vulnerable witnesses and child witnesses, is available on the NT.gov.au website.
