Applicants to become a Judge's Associate

Employment opportunities for Law Graduates

The Supreme Court offers Associate positions at the commencement of each calendar year. Associates are employed as part of a Chamber comprising a Judge, an Associate and an Executive Assistant. Associates provide legal research, in-court duties and other ad hoc support for that Judge.

Associates are employed for a period of approximately 12 months, on a non-ongoing contract at the Northern Territory Public Sector Administrative Officer 4 level.

Note that for the Associate Justice, they have a combined Associate/Executive Assistant role. The duties of the Associate/Executive Assistant are the same as that of an Associate to a Judge. The term of appointment is not limited to 12-months and graduates should not be deterred from applying for this role, including if they only propose to work for a 12-month appointment.

Please see above link for contract details.

How do I apply for an Associate position?

To apply for an Associate position, please submit a cover letter addressed to the Judge, your Curriculum Vitae and a copy of your Academic Transcript. These documents can be submitted by email to the Judge’s Executive Assistant, details of which are on the Supreme Court’s website.

Any queries regarding Associate positions should in the first instance be directed to the Judge’s Executive Assistant in which you are seeking a position.

Successful applicants will be required to obtain a National Police Check at their own expense prior to commencement.

As positions are filled a note will be included beneath each judge's name on our website to indicate which judges are no longer accepting applications.
