Applicants to become a Judge's Associate

Employment opportunities for Law Graduates

The Supreme Court offers Associate positions at the commencement of each calendar year. Associates are employed as part of a Chamber comprising a Judge, an Associate and an Executive Assistant. Associates provide legal research, in-court duties and other ad hoc support for that Judge. Note that for the Associate Justice there is no annual job opportunity for graduates and they have a permanent Executive Assistant.

Associates are employed for a period of approximately 12 months, on a non-ongoing contract at the Northern Territory Public Sector Administrative Officer 4 level.

How do I apply for an Associate position?

To apply for an Associate position, please submit a cover letter addressed to the Judge, your Curriculum Vitae and a copy of your Academic Transcript. These documents can be submitted by email to the Judge’s Executive Assistant, details of which are on the Supreme Court’s website.

Any queries regarding Associate positions should in the first instance be directed to the Judge’s Executive Assistant in which you are seeking a position.

Successful applicants will be required to obtain a National Police Check prior to commencement.

When should I apply?

Your application should be submitted by the end of May in the year preceding the calendar year in which you wish to commence an Associateship. Applications received later than this time will not necessarily preclude you from being considered for a position.
