The Honourable Geoffrey Michael Eames AJ
Geoffrey Michael Eames was an Acting Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory from 2007 - 2009.
At the time of his appointment, Justice Eames had recently retired from the Court of Appeal of Victoria, a position he had held since 2002. Before that appointment, Justice Eames was a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria from 1992 – 2002.
Justice Eames was called to the Victorian Bar in 1969 and became a foundation member of the Fitzroy and Nunawading Legal Services, before becoming the first lawyer to work with the Central Land Council in Alice Springs in 1975. He later worked for the North Australian Legal Aid Service, acting on behalf of Aboriginal organisations in Land Rights claims.
Justice Eames was the Director of the South Australian Legal Services Commission, was appointed as a Queen’s Counsel in 1989 and was Senior Counsel assisting the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody from 1988 - 1991.
Justice Eames was also counsel assisting the South Australian Auditor-General’s investigation into the State Bank and Deputy Chair of the Australian Institute of Judicial Administration Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Committee.
