The Honourable Sir Francis Gerard Brennan

Gerard Brennan served as an additional Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory from 1976 - 1979.

Justice Brennan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and was President of the National Union of Australian University Students in 1949.

Justice Brennan was called to the Bar in 1951 and appointed as a Queen's Counsel in 1965.

Justice Brennan was a Member of the Executive of the Law Council of Australia from 1974 - 1976, President of the Bar Association of Queensland from 1974 - 1976 and President of the Australian Bar Association from 1975 - 1976.

Justice Brennan was a Member of the Australian Law Reform Commission from 1975 - 1977 and President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Administrative Review Council from 1976 - 1979.

Justice Brennan was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory from 1976 - 1981, Justice of the Australian Industrial Court from 1976 - 1981 and a Justice of the Federal Court of Australia from 1977 - 1981.

Justice Brennan was appointed as a Justice of the High Court of Australia in 1981 and Chief Justice of the High Court in 1995, a position he held until his retirement in 1998.

Justice Brennan was appointed as a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 1988 and was made a Knight of the British Empire in 1981.
