The Honourable Phillip John Rice

Phillip Rice served as Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory from 1985 to 1991.

Justice Rice graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide and was called to the South Australian Bar in 1950. Before that, he was a member of the Royal Australian Naval Reserve from 1945 to 1947.

Justice Rice was a member of the Statutory Committee of the Law Society of South Australia from 1971 to 1983 and a Member of the Council of the Society from 1967 to 1973. He was appointed as a Queen's Counsel in 1970.

Justice Rice was a part-time lecturer in the Law of Evidence at the University of Adelaide from 1970 to 1972 and in 1974.

Justice Rice was Chairman of the South Australian Bar Association from 1976 to 1983 and was appointed as a Judge of the District Court of South Australia from 1983 to 1985.

Justice Rice was Chairman of the South Australian Correctional Services Advisory Council from 1982 to 1983 and Chairman of the South Australian Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal in 1983.

Justice Rice was Judge Marshal for the Royal Australian Navy from 1985 to 1987, a Commodore Judge Advocate General for the Navy from 1983 to 1985 and Deputy Judge Advocate General from 1978 to 1983.
