Acting Justice David Lovell
David Cameron Lovell is from South Australia and was admitted as a legal practitioner in that state in 1978.
He went into private practice before joining the Crown Prosecution Office in 1983, where he worked as Senior Assistant Crown Prosecutor until 1989.
For 16 years from 1990 he worked at Jeffcott Chambers, and was appointed as a Queen’s Counsel in 2002.
Acting Justice Lovell was appointed as a Judge of the South Australian District Court in May 2006, became a Supreme Court Justice in February 2015 and was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 2021.
He was named as an Acting Justice in the Northern Territory in 2026.
A keen cricketer he has represented the South Australian state team, and was captain of the SA Second XI in 1980/81.
He also played in South Australia for the University District Club and the Kensington District Cricket Club and was awarded the Bradman Medal in 1978/79 as the best player in the District competition.
When not working as a judge he enjoys reading, golf, music and fitness.
